oversized antique refinished industrial riveted joint wrought iron panel with intact and original ornamental cast brass mail or letter slot salvaged from a set of massive exterior iron gate doors belonging to a 19th century gilded age new york city mansion. the hinged mail slot and wrought iron panel were fabricated by an unidentified french foundry or fabricator. the slightly recessed panel is reinforced by overlapping strips of metal riveted tightly against edges. the cast brass ornamental letter or mail slot is original and intact. the door component has been brushed down to bare metal and sealed with a clear coat lacquer. measures 18 1/2 x 10 inches.
