late 19th or early 20th century antique american exterior residential black enameled cast iron flush mount mailbox designed and fabricated by the h.b. ives co., new haven, conn. the completely intact mailbox contains a hinged cover with pivoting flap and lockable hasp. the slender and curved outer compartment retains the original swinging peephole cover with the word "mail" on it. the black enameled finish is largely intact. the iron mailbox is free from cracks or breaks. the tin sheet metal back is original to the mailbox. measures 5 3/4 x 2 1/2 x 12 inches.
