original late 19th or early 20th century antique american "arlington" pattern ornamental cast bronze interior residential doorknob backplates or escutcheons designed and fabricated by the reading hardware company, reading, pa. the simply, yet elegantly designed passage door backplates contain top and bottom volutes, along with faux brass metal rivet heads along the edges. the surface mount backplates feature single keyholes and collars or thimbles. the four screw holes are for mounting purposes. the backplates have been refinished with a mostly uniform surface. several pieces of hardware in this desirable pattern were salvaged from a chicago mansion constructed between 1898-1905. the reading hardware was used on the entrance and passage doors, windows, cabinetry and so on. a large amount of this hardware "suite" will be available on the urban remains website. priced for the pair. measures 2 x 9.5 inches
