original ornamental heavy cast bronze metal surface-mount elevator car call push button backplate or escutcheon salvaged from the lobby of a jarvis hunt-designed commercial building located in chicago. two matching push button backplates are available (salvaged from the same building). the neoclassical style backplate was likely fabricated by or for the elevator supply & repair company. the rectangular-shaped bronze call box contains two holes designed to hold two push-buttons for calling an elevator cab. the reed and tie border provides added visual character. the embossed or raised lettering is clear and legible. surface wear evident. nicely aged surface patina left untouched. dates to the early 1920's. measures 3 x 8 inches.
