c. 1900-10 original antique american ornamental cast iron interior commercial office building door mail slot designed and fabricated by the yale & towne mfg. co., stamford, ct. the refinished iron slot contains an elongated oval-shaped "letters" plate hinged to the surrounding frame. the recessed slot is flanked by highly detailed decorative sea shell design motifs. the uniform brushed metal finish has been sealed with a clear coat lacquer. the office door mail slot was salvaged from a chicago commerical building. measures approximately 8 x 2 1/2 inches.
