very ornate late 1870's original and completely intact antique american high victorian era "japanned" or baked black enameled ornamental cast iron interior residential fireplace pierced summer cover designed and fabricated by the w.l. sharp & son co., steubenville, oh. the intricately designed detachable summer cover contains the original matching arch top or "horsehoe" surround. both fireplace accessories were salvaged from a chicago italianate residence built around 1879. measures 33 x 33 inches. interior dimensions 271/4 h, 22 inches length.
