rare mid-19th century richly colored teal blue porter bottle manufactured for philadelphia bottler james monteith. the low, steep shoulders and long narrow neck end in a mineral finish, or an applied tapered collar with v-shaped ring that exhibits heavy slop and tooling marks. crudities include allover seeding, vertical bubbles, and heavy whittling at the neck. the base has a domed kickup with residue from the iron pontil. the front body is embossed "j. monteith / f road /phil. a" with large spacing between lines and the abbreviated portion of 'philadelphia'. the embossing is slightly caseworn, and ends notably close to the heel. the bottle is in good condition, and has been cleaned so appears clear and without haze.
