early to mid-1870's original antique american ornamental cast iron floor register or grate designed and fabricated by the tuttle & bailey mfg., co., new york city, ny. the flush mount floor register was salvaged from a chicago brick cottage undergoing demolition. the grate contains a mostly uniform black paint finish. the pivoting louvers were removed long ago. the face plate alone is in great shape. the earlier tuttle grates from this decade are harder to find.
