naturally worn and weathered early 1940's vintage american industrial articulating arm "woodward" factory bench task lamp designed and fabricated in 1943 by william h. woodward of detroit, mi. the machine shop "utilight" articulating task lamp contains a unique cast iron annular flange with a spherical enlargement formed with transverse bores in either of which a rigid steel post can be held in selective adjustments secured with a set screw. the unique adjustable joint is comprised of two circular friction plates interconnected by a single bolt, which with its nut, regulates the pressure mutually applied to the discs. sleeve type socket receives the adjustable arms containing the light source and upright post affixed to the "swing-out" cast iron arm featuring deeply embossed lettering. retains the original yellow brass incandescent light socket , encased by an elongated "slim helmet" shape cast aluminum reflector or shade. the industrial task lamp retains the original period rubber insulated lamp cord. cast iron and steel components have a nicely aged surface patina from years of use and abuse. salvaged from a aviation precision instrument assembly plant.
