richly ornate neoclassical style early 20th century exterior entrance door "blois" pattern doorknob backplate manufactured around 1900-10 by the p. & f. corbin co., new britain, ct. the oversized deeply embossed backplate features a flame finial resting above a detailed anthemion. a projecting shield cartouche is accentuated with a centrally located fleur-de-lis design motif. the base of the plate features two opposed aquatic creatures flanking a heavily fluted and tapered urn. the backplate contains a mostly uniform surface patina. measures approximately 14 3/4 x 3 1/4 inches.
