one of two hard to find early 20th century antique american industrial articulating factory machinist workbench task lamp designed and patented by albert runkel of milwaukee, wisc. the light weight fixture is comprised of light gauge sheet steel, rectangular in section, with "universal" joints allowing the lamp to be placed securely in any position. the lamp cord is enclosed within the fixture, passing through each of the many points of articulation. the thumb nut and washers give the joints great holding power. the fixture is equipped with the original base plate for wall or ceiling installation. the baked olive green enameled finish was in poor condition, but the original manufacturer label was very legible. the fixture was fabricated by the american fixture company, milwaukee, wi. each jointed arm, base plate and the parabola-shaped shade with rolled rim have been brushed down to bare metal and sealed with a clear coat lacquer. the american fixture company typically furnished cone, pear or parabola-shaped shades or reflectors with a frosted aluminum interior finish to accompany this type of fixture. the shade on this particular fixture contains a yellow brass fitter and was fabricated by harvey hubbell. the brass shell socket has been rewired. the articulating lamp is unique in that it contains additional flexible segments compared to the existing one (also listed on the website with original finish) and/or the fixtures advertised. measures approximately 46 inches in length when fully stretched.
