completely intact late 19th century antique american ornamental cast iron interior building lobby elevator cab signal lamp or lantern fabricated by the elevator supply & repair co., chicago, il. the two interior keyless sockets have been rewired. the highly detailed single arm wall sconce originally contained a "jet black" or baked black paint finish. the protruding tapered and turned arm is tightly affixed to the socket housing or body, featuring highly detailed and deeply embossed neoclassical style floral rosettes flanked by a rope motif. the original set screws (for securing the globes) are original and intact. the white opalescent matte finish signal globes or shades are original to the elevator lantern. the globes likely contained a hand-painted "up" and "down" in bold black lettering. the brushed metal finish has been sealed with a clear coat lacquer. salvaged from a chicago commercial building demolished long ago.
