early 20th century antique american ornamental cast brass interior residential gothic style "melrose" pattern push plate, fabricated by the lockwood mfg. co., south norwalk, conn. the oversized "toulon" pattern backplate or escutcheon contains a circular opening for optional cylinder lock. the backplate features impressive tracery and crockets along the top. naturally aged surface patina left largely intact. measures approximately 14 x 3 3/8 inches.
