early 20th century original completely intact golden oak wood half-mantel designed and fabricated by chas. f. lorenzen & co., inc., chicago, il. the markings on the backside of the quartered oak wood mantle indicate the chicago-based maker. the front parlor mantle is comprised of solid quartered white oak wood with the original varnished finish. two opposed solid round wood columns support the mantel shelf. the capitals have finely carved volutes. the frieze panel is largely unornamented with a recessed panel surround by egg & dart trimwork. the antique american mantel was salvaged from a chicago three-flat shortly before demolition. measures 60 x 12 x 50 3/4 inches, with inner dimensions of 41 x 39 inches.
