original early 1930's american antique industrial depression era fully functional stationary all-metal chicago factory "self-closing" upright trash can designed and and patented in 1923 by james walker for the solar-sturges mfg. co., chicago, il. the heavy gauge pressed and folded furniture sheet steel waste receptacle contains a brushed and sanded metal finish sealed with a cleat coat lacquer. the oversized refuse can features a pyramidal-shaped hinged top for easy retrieval of the interior removable galvanized steel liner and/or rubbish. the trash can retains the original riveted joint yellow brass feet for added support and stability. great overall condition, considering age. 17 inches x 16 1/2 inches x 34 1/2 inches.
