two matching highly ornate late 19th century american victorian era refinished cast iron interior residential sliding or pocket door escutcheons or backplates possibly designed and fabricated by the nashua lock company, nashua, nh. the decorative flush mount escutcheons contain deeply recessed handles used for pulling the doors from their pockets (hung on track within the walls). the backplates may have had a bronze or brass plate finish. traces of that original finish is evident on both plates. the pierced keyhole openings provide access to the mortise lock mounted within the door. the brushed metal backplates have been sealed with a clear coat lacquer. visually striking detail. priced for the pair. 2 1/4 inches x 6 1/2 inches.
