well-designed antique american interior residential fireplace summer cover comprised of cast iron with original brass-plated finish largely intact. the pierced metal cover or grate is replete with dense filigree highlighted with large circular floral rosettes in each corner. the central design motif is composed of a grid accentuated with bands of repeating diminutive rosettes surrounding an encircled rosette. the outer edges of the grate contain a low-relief textured field pattern. the original spun yellow brass knob or pull is intact. the antique fireplace accessory was likely fabricated by the peerless mfg. co., louisville, ky. measures 22 x 19 1/4 inches. no breaks or cracks evident.
