original 19th century antique american victorian era ornamental cast iron "chicago style" newel post with a mostly uniform black enameled finish. the freestanding newel post was designed and fabricated by the dearborn foundry co., chicago, il. the exterior newel post features a unique embossed ring ball finial resting atop a pedimented base. the newel post was salvaged from the outdoor stoop of a chicago two-story victorian brick cottage undergoing demolition. the floor or base plate containing pre-drilled holes remains largely intact. the dearborn foundry manufactured several different sizes of this particular design. originally installed at the stoop landing and reinforced with interconnected tubular iron rails, supported by brackets mounted on the stone treads leading to the entrance door. several others available.
