c. 1930's american antique depression era hard to find and highly collectible art deco style figural "electric log" fireplace andiron ornament designed and fabricated by the universal electric log co., chicago, il. the diminutive ornament is comprised of cast iron with the original antique gold enameled finish largely intact. the single-sided perforated metal plaque exhibits a vast range of decorative design motifs drawing upon an eclectic blend of elegant and stylish trapezoidal, zigzagged, geometric, and jumbled shapes, coupled with elements of the more "primitive" arts of africa, ancient egypt and aztec mexico. the figural cast iron female profile exhibits intricate and striking detail throughout. the overall casting detail is truly exceptional.
