two matching all original and well-maintained early 20th century antique american industrial "model 530" oversized angled glass x-ray hanging pendants or concealed showroom reflector light fixtures designed and fabricated by curtis lighting, inc., chicago, ills. the pair of uniquely-shaped "monarch" shades, fitters and sockets are equipped with an encased reflecting element (i.e., silver nitrate). the exterior surface consists of a patented "armor" gold enameled finish that required very little maintenance. the original shade fitters are comprised of steel with the original black paint finish largely intact. a total of six were carefully salvaged from a milwaukee automotive interior showroom during renovations were they had been covered over for at least fifty years. the first x-ray reflector was designed in 1897 by the curtis lighting company. the unique reflectors were hand-made from a special grade of glass, free from imperfections such as seeds, bubbles, and discoloration. the reflecting element applied to the outer surface of the glass is pure silver, completely protected by the glass on the inner side of the shade or reflector. the silver "armor" finish is a scientific process that was used in curtis research laboratories to keep "the silver bright." the "x-ray" pendant light is fully functional. measures 10 inches in diameter x 10 inches high. priced for the pair.
