unusual vintage industrial interior repurposed hog oiler pendant ceiling light fixture comprised of heavy gauge pierced cylindrical steel with a uniform rustic surface finish or patina. the seam is reinforced with multiple rivets. the cylindrical body is suspended with a chain affixed to a supporting steel rod crossbar. the interior contains a keyless edison socket with benjamin double socket cluster used for added illumination. the hog oiler was likely fabricated by the rowe manufacturing co., galesburg, il. a hog oiler was a mechanical device employed on farms to be used by hogs to provide relief from insects and offer skin protection. it consisted of a reservoir to hold oil, and a means to distribute the oil onto the hog, often via grooved wheels or cylinders. hogs seeking relief would rub up against a wheel (or cylinder) causing it to rotate and dispense oil onto their bodies. measures 26 x 10 3/4 inches.
