refinished c. 1880's american antique victorian era ornamental combination ornamental bronze, iron and brass surface mount railroad passenger car door lock designed and fabricated by the adams & westlake company, chicago, il. the iron box lock retains the original dead and latch bolts. the sliding privacy lever remains in working condition. the small doorknob with deeply sunken center features intricate leafage. the lock assembly has an oil-rubbed metallic bronze enameled finish. the adams & westlake was founded in 1857 in chicago, illinois. in the beginning, they began manufacturing and selling railroad supplies and hardware. with the opening of the american west and expansion of the railroads, the company prospered and diversified. within 45 years, adlake became one of the largest suppliers of equipment to the transportation industry in the world. in 1927, adlake relocated to its present site in elkhart, indiana. measures 4 1/4 x 3 3/4 inches.
