unique custom-built c. 1920's american industrial watchmaker's desk or workstation task lamp containing the patented "knuckle joint" designed and fabricated by the o.c. white company, worcester, mass. the primitive task lamp contains a long bent tubular steel arm containing a diminutive hooded and spoked pulley system with a cylindrical cast iron counterweight. the vulcanized black rubber bryant paddle switch socket has been rewired with period appropriate braided cloth lamp cord. the steel shade fitter (with decorative set screws intact) and tapered cylindrical sheet steel shade or reflector have been brushed down to bare metal and sealed with a clear coat lacquer. the tubular arm containing the knuckle joint moves with ease. the newly added base is comprised of solid wood with varnished finish. the lamp was used by a watch repairman who operated a business in the chicago area for several years. measures approximately 7 1/2 x 13 x 32 inches.
