original 19th century american antique interior residential fireplace insert likely designed and fabricated by the peerless mfg. co., louisville, ky. the unusual three-sided fireback or insert is comprised of heavy gauge stamped steel with a nicely aged copper-plated finish. the ornamental cast iron surround features a protruding hood flanked by two matching decorative pilasters with ionic capitals. the american victorian fireplace insert was salvaged from a chicago graystone undergoing demolition. measures 25 1/2 x 30 1/4 x 9 inches.
