original and intact large scale american early 20th century ornamental wrought iron exterior newel post salvaged from a beaux-arts style new york city mansion demolished in the 1960's. the exceptionally ornate and finely crafted freestanding newel post contains open metalwork featuring fanciful scrollwork, ball finials and geometric shapes. the weathered black paint finish remains largely intact. the iron newel post is attributed to the helca iron works, brooklyn, ny. dates to around 1900-1903. measures 11 x 11 x 53 inches.
