exceptionally designed and highly sought after c. 1920's american ornamental cast brass exterior entrance door thumb latch handle ou pull purportedly from a theater building. the exact hardware fabricator is not known. the two square-shaped back or mounting plates contain beveled edges with lightly incised grooves and hieroglyphics. the original and intact thumb latch lever is unornamented. the sarcophagus-like shape of the handle contains an exposed or open-ended full-figured egyptian pharaoh and/or mummy in a death pose. the nicely aged surface patina has been left untouched. a design patent was applied for, but whether it was registered, is not known.
