original late 1860's american ornamental cast iron interior residential fireplace summer cover designed and fabricated by or for henry dibblee & co., chicago, il. the iron summer cover was originally used with a wood and/or coal burning fireplace comprised of marble. the black enameled finish is mostly uniform throughout. the arch top cover features a distinctive perforated design with a centrally located vent featuring floral motifs arranged in a radial pattern. the summer cover was salvaged from a chicago italianate residence demolished long ago. measures 19 1/2 x 26 1/4 inches.
