original c. 1930's american art deco machine age single electric pendant light fixture featuring a unique "stepped' profile opalescent white glass globe accentuated with baked black enameled "speed rings." the shade was likely fabricated by or for the j.c. virden lighting co., cleveland, oh. the fixture contains a single keyless incandescent light bulb socket rewired with period appropriate braided black cloth lamp cord. the chain, shade fitter and ceiling canopy contain a uniform black enameled finish over brass and/or steel. found in the basement of an old woolworths store located on the west side of chicago. measures 9 x 32 inches.
