c. 1930's highly desirable clean and compact compartmentalized american made late depression-era furniture dresser fabricated and assembled by the simmons mfg. co., kenosha, wis. the pressed and folded depression era metal dresser was likely designed by albert witike in the late 1920's or early 1930's. the dresser contains a plurality of sliding drawers with spacious interiors. the original pressed steel knob or drawer pulls are all intact and secured tightly in place. the cabinet is supported by four turned and tapered tubular steel legs. the fully functional bassick swivel casters are original. the dresser has been brushed down to bare metal and sealed with a clear coat lacquer. several simmons brand furniture pieces were recently salvaged from the "private rooms" of a south side chicago hospital. simmons specialized in metal bed frame fabrication primarily for hospitals, hotels and other commercial settings. measures 32 inches x 19 inches x 38 1/2 inches.
