early 1870's antique american interior residential coal or wood burning fireplace summer cover designed and fabricated by or for henry dibblee & co., chicago, il. the single-sided cover is highly ornamented with a centrally located oval-shaped cartouche containing rich filigree and/or foliated scrollwork. the iron summer cover was salvaged from a chicago italianate residence undergoing demolition. the black enameled finish is largely uniform throughout.
