single original early 20th century antique american industrial malleable strap iron condulet bulb guard or cage designed and fabricated by or for the appleton electric co., chicago, il. the early industrial explosion proof light guard is comprised of thin iron strips fastened together where they overlap. a single threaded screw affixed to the topmost clamp hold the cage snug around the fixture. the cage, along with a completely intact condulet containing the original "tipped" tungsten light bulb were salvaged from the old non-extant cook county hospital power house complex. the cage has been brushed down to bare metal and sealed with a clear coat lacquer.
