original and amazingly intact late 19th century american victorian era interior jewelry store "diamonds" window trade or advertising sign from wiscasset, maine. the hand-crafted pine wood elongated shield single-sided sign features a nicely aged gilded background with fanciful textured black enameled lettering. the artist and/or sign maker is not known. surface wear consistent with age. the "novelties" likely referred to precious metals and other gemstones (e.g., rubies, emeralds, sapphires, etc). measures 24 x 10 inches.
