very unique antique american industrial freestanding caged "trouble light" floor lamp. the repurposed stand (formerly used to support a bird cage) is comprised of cast iron with a bent solid yellow brass c-arm with hook. the unusual art nouveau style curvaceous four-legged base features scrolled feet. fabricated in the late 19th century by a.b. hendryx & co., new haven, ct. the hubbell brand "bulb guard" is comprised of galvanized steel with threaded end opening. the yellow brass socket with on/off paddle switch has been rewired with vintage yellow braided rayon cloth cord and bakelite plug. excellent working condition. the andrew b. hendryx co. was established in 1875, specializing in the manufacture of bird cages and related accessories. by the early 1880's a.b. & co. eventually moved into other areas of interest, including, but not limited to, fishing reels, lures, etc. by the late 19th and early 20th century a.b. hendryx was considered one of the largest manufacturers of fishing reels and metal baits. measures 16 x 12 x 64 inches.
