original and intact privy dug late nineteenth or early twentieth century colorless glass hutchinson blobtop bottle fabricated for the garden city bottling company. the tall, slim body is finished with a squat neck and applied blob collar. the front body is embossed, with some casewear, "garden city / registered trademark / bottling works". heavily embossed in the center is a a large crest or shield within which are a knight with axe, a bird with crown, and the words "r.s.i. / chicago,ill.". the bottle has not been cleaned, so features some haze or discoloration. crudities include surface wear, bubbles and irridization. charles l. cowell was born in 1858 in wisconsin, and moved to kansas in 1863. he was raised on a farm and moved, along with william a. simons, to missoula, montana in 1887. cowell and simons were sometimes business associates, including in the garden city bottling and liquor company, wholesale dealers of wine, liquor, and cigars. cowell was also one of the organizers of the missoula light company.
