original and intact c. 1890's dark amber st. louis weiss shaped beer bottle manufactured for john pforr in chicago, il. the wide body slopes into a tooled blob top finish. on the front body is a circular slug plate with deeply embossed lettering inside reading, "john pforr / 72&74 / perry st. / chicago". crudities and surface wear are typical of its age and date of manufacture. the base is smooth with seams that indicate it was made in a post bottom mold. pforr owned a weiss brewery at the turn of the century. city directories indicate he had been in the bottling business since at least 1876, at 66 perry street.
