rare late 19th century largely intact antique american medical mobile hospital operating room table fabricated by the w.d. allison company, indianapolis, ind. the surgeon's operating table was designed and patented in 1895 by charles r. lentz of indianapolis, ind. the well-maintained solid cherry wood combination table and cabinet was salvaged from the old cook county hospital (chicago, il.). the horizontal tabletop with hinged leaf and surrounding apron can be tilted from side to side and up and down by engaging a fully functional nickel-plated brass foot-operated lever and t-handle. the bottom section contains a concealed double-sided revolving or swing-out instrument cabinet retaining the original multi-tier pressed glass shelves (for storing liquid solutions) with lightly embossed lettering. the multiple sliding drawers (accessed from either side) retain the original decorative drop handles. the cabinet doors with single recessed panels are original and intact. the diminutive swivel casters are fully functional. the stained finish is uniform throughout. likely fabricated between 1899-1900. 52 x 22 x 33"
