late 1850's or early 1860's antique american vibrant green porter style soda or mineral water bottle with a tapered collar and single ring manufactured for george s. twitchell, in philadelphia, pa. the long and narrow neck contains a single large bubble. the bottle is a typical "philly green," with a rich and distinctive green color. cleanly embossed on the front body is "g.s. twitchell / t /philada", the city name being abbreviated with raised letter "a" underlined, and the central "t" being open lined. whittling and seeding is found throughout. great overall condition. the civil war-era bottle was likely fabricated by dyotville glassworks, philadelphia, pa.
