elaborately designed 19th century antique american ornamental cast iron interior residential doorknob backplate fabricated around 1892-97 by the russell & erwin mfg. co., new britian, ct. the unique art nouveau style backplate features deeply embossed allover floriated scrollwork. the ornamented collar or thimble remains intact. the rectangular backplate contains four pre-drilled screw holes for mounting purposes. measures approximately 9 5/8 x 2 1/2 inches.
