hard to find c. 1850's antique american privy dug pontiled teal porter style soda bottle manufactured for pittsburgh bottler joseph kennedy. the front body is heavily embossed with lettering that reads “j kennedy / pittsburg”(note spelling without ‘h’) and an ornamental flower design. on the reverse large block letter initials "j.k." are centrally embossed with some chipping or wear. the squat body and low, sloping shoulders are finished with a crude applied inverted tapered collar. the thick base has a deep asymmetrical kickup with some residue from the iron pontil. allover seeding and whittling, vertical bubbles, and asymmetry lend the glass appealing crudity. the privy dug bottle exhibits some surface wear and discoloration but is intact and in good condition considering age.
