single civil war-era light forest green glass pontiled champagne beer bottle manufactured by charles joly in philadelphia, pa. the slim tapered body is finished with an applied blob top lip. embossed block lettering reads "no 9 so seventh st" in the center surrounded by the manufacturer's abbreviated name arcing above, "chas joly" and "philadelphia" below. a seam sits near the heel and the base has a slightly domed kick-up. american bottler, volume 25 lists bottler charles joly as such: "charles joly, the worthy veteran bottler 9 south seventh street, philadelphia, and ex-president of the american bottlers' protective association, still is on the sunny side of life, and is a most amiable gentleman and popular representative of the industry."
