early 20th century antique american victorian era "chatham" pattern entrance door backplate or escutcheon fabricated between 1900-10 by the russell & erwin mfg. co., new britain, ct. the residential backplate is comprised of cast brass with original baked black enameled inlay largely intact. the thimble or collar is tightly affixed to the backplate. the pre-drilled opening is used in conjunction with any and all cylinder locks. mostly uniform surface patina. salvaged from a milwaukee foursquare residence demolished long ago. measures 11 x 3 1/4 inches.
