c. 1920's original leaded art glass diminutive medallion fragment salvaged from a window or cabinet door located in the chicago athletic association building annex addition completed in 1923. the spanish revival style circular-shaped art glass fragment contains fired black enameled design motifs within the centrally located segmented shield. the thick lead caming and soldered joints are in great condition. the exact glass firm or fabricator is not known. the 20-story prairie style chicago athletic association annex (also known as the chicago athletic club addition or "madison building") was designed by the notable chicago-based architectural firm of martin, garden & schmidt. the madison street landmarked high-rise was added to the existing 11-story neo-venetian style chicago club association building constructed in 1893 by architect henry ives cobb. the towering "gardenesque" style red brick and ornamented limestone annex was completed in 1907, with an additional eight floors added in 1925. together the two buildings form an l-shape wrapping around willoughby tower. the annex contained the famous "cherry circle" bar room, lodging, the crystal room, offices and a presidential suite on the 18th floor.
