single-sided antique american industrial hand-painted folk art "no admittance" sign salvaged from a machine shop located within the a. finkl & sons foundry (currently undergoing demolition). the sign was no doubt fabricated in-house on a heavy gauge steel plate with a brightly bold black lettering against a bright yellow background. the sign contains multiple holes for mounting purposes. a. finkl & sons co. was founded in 1879 when german immigrant anton finkl developed a new kind of chisel to clean bricks from buildings destroyed in the great chicago fire. in 1902, the company moved to chicago's near north side. measures 22 x 12 1/4 inches.
