matching pair of original uniquely designed late 19th century antique american aesthetic movement interior residential doorknob backplates likely fabricated around 1885-90. the two passage door backplates are comprised of ornamental cast bronze with a mostly uniform finish (any and all original baked black enameled inlay was removed long ago). the fluted collars or thimbles remains intact. the escutcheons contain two screw holes for mounting purposes. the door hardware was manufactured by nashua lock co., nashua, nh. each backplate measures approximately 5 1/2 x 1 1/2 inches. in chicago, this style of backplate is often paired with a "jet black" porcelain doorknob with brass shank. the 19th century chicago victorian residence containing this salvaged hardware is a case in point. priced for the pair.
