hard to find and all original c. 1870's privy dug aqua blue blobtop soda bottle fabricated for frederick w. muller in arlington heights, illinois. the slim body has high shoulders that taper into a squat neck and intact applied blobtop. the base is smooth with a worn, centrally embossed open-lined logo of a blobtop bottle. embossing on the front body reads "f.w. muller / arlington / heights / ill". on the reverse heel is the makers mark for cunningham & ihmsen "c&i". crudities are typical of its age and date of manufacture, including stretch marks at the neck, bubbles, and whittling. the dug bottle has minor surface wear and appears heavily irridized, with allover white and rainbow patination. frederick w. muller established the sass & bro. bottling works at 116 Dunton ave. (dunton, illinois), with his half-brother louis sass. during their first bottling season he was still an employee, but by the second season had become a partner. after 1872, muller bought out louis sass' interest. beginning in 1873-1874. when the town name was changed to arlington heights, the bottling operation there was renamed the "f.w. muller bottling works".
