intact depression era folded steel rectangular containers with unusual sliding top lids and "federal" stamped on each side. each box end is constructed by a set of envelope folds, and the double compartments are bound together by riveted steel strapping. the top edge of each box is rolled and forms a track for the sliding, folded metal lids. the maker or exact use is unknown. the long and narrow boxes resemble security deposit boxes. the pressed and folded metal has been brushed down and sealed with a clear coat lacquer. the lightweight storage boxes exhibits some wear typical of age and date of manufacture.
