all original late 19th century american antique victorian era ornamental cast iron "perfection line" interior residential fireplace gas insert designed and fabricated by the milwaukee gas stove company, milwaukee, wi. the refinished insert or grate contains a brushed metal finish, with original copper-plated finish largely intact. the original gas valve shutoff key is intact. the top hood and lower ash grate are comprised of perforated iron with an intricate filigree design motif. the outer edges or frame contains a repeating lightly incised geometric design motif accentuated with two large square-shaped floral rosettes. the ornamental gas grate was salvaged from a chicago graystone residence undergoing demolition. dates to 1898. two similar grates available. measures 25 x 30 3/4 x 9 inches.
