exceptionally rare and visually striking pre-chicago fire exterior commercial brick building facade ornamental cast iron inset panel attributed to letz & burling, chicago iron works, chicago, il. the oversized building plaque features a centrally located deeply embossed female face protruding from a surrounding decorative cartouche. the projecting pitched crown is accentuated with a lightly incised palmette flanked by intricate foliated scrollwork. the iron panel has been brushed down to bare metal and sealed with a clear coat lacquer. the non-extant chicago building from which the panel was removed, was built between 1862-66.
