original 19th century original and lightly sanded solid pine wood structural and/or load-bearing residential foundation post salvaged from a victorian era chicago worker's cottage undergoing demolition. the solid hand-hewn wood circular-shaped piling was originally used to support the interlocking mortised and tenoned sill plates containing the vertical studs used for framing out the cottage. the solid wood piling was closely spaced (in relation to other pilings) under any and all sill plates, including the massive centrally located summer beam running parallel with the sill plates or timbers. the post was likely used as a temporary foundation when the cottage was moved to the back of the lot in preparation for constructing the two flat brick residence. several posts available. the nailed dimensional lumber was left in place for added visual character or distinction. measures 7 inch diameter x 74 inch height
