exceptional all original american depression-era c. 1933-34 art deco style "century of progress" paperweight souvenir sold or given away at the chicago world's fair. the exact fabricator is not known. the circular-shaped paperweight contains deeply embossed lettering and a visually striking depiction of saturn with curvaceous rings. this particular design motif (i.e., saturn with rings) was used repeatedly to represent "futurism." the motif also resonated strongly with the streamlined designs used in the fairs' building architecture. the diminutive paperweight retains the original green felt bottom. the distinctive "crisscross" field pattern provides added character and/or distinction. this paperweight is hard to find and highly sought after. measures 3 1/2 inches in diameter. the fair's insignia in the center truly makes the weight a visually attractive collectible.
